Vodafone UK Boosts Data on Budget SIM-Only Plans
LONDON – Vodafone UK has significantly increased the data allowances on several of its low-cost SIM-only plans, offering more value for new customers. The cheapest entry-level package now includes a whopping 21GB of 4G data for just £7 per month, up from a mere 6GB previously.
"We know data is king for our customers," said Sarah Thompson, Vodafone’s head of mobile plans. "By boosting the allowances on our Basics range, we’re giving people the freedom to stream, scroll and share without worrying about extra charges."
The Basics plans, which are tucked away on Vodafone’s website, also come with unlimited UK minutes and texts on a 12-month contract. The £8 per month deal now includes 80GB of data (previously 50GB), while £10 gets you 90GB and £12 nets you 100GB (up from 70GB).
London-based student Emily Jones, 22, welcomed the changes. "I’m always hunting for the best deal, and an extra 15GB of data for just £7 is fantastic. It means I can video call my family and friends back home without stressing about my data running out."
However, there are a few caveats. The Basics plans are 4G-only, so those looking for superfast 5G speeds will need to look elsewhere. Prices will also rise by £1 per month from April 2026.
Industry analyst Mark Denton noted that while the increases are generous, Vodafone still lags behind some rivals. "Other operators are offering unlimited data for just a few pounds more per month. Vodafone’s Basics plans are good value, but they’re not market-leading."
Vodafone hasn’t revealed how long the boosted allowances will be available, but said it regularly reviews and updates its plans to ensure customers get the best possible deal.
"In these challenging economic times, we’re committed to giving our customers more for their money," Thompson said. "We’ll continue to listen to their needs and adapt our offerings accordingly."
