Broadband deals with no upfront cost

Not every broadband deal is as cheap as it looks on day one. Upfront costs are the one off charges you pay before or just after activation: activation or setup fees, engineer visit or installation charges, and router or delivery fees. A no upfront cost deal waives all of these, so the price you see is the price you pay from month one.

Broadband advice

A practical guide to finding a broadband deal

Compare what is available at your address, the speed your household needs and the full price across the contract. This guide explains each part without the sales language.

On this page
  1. 01Compare broadband deals
  2. 02Choose the right speed
  3. 03Check the full contract cost
  4. 04Switch broadband provider

Compare broadband deals

Start with the services that can actually be installed at your address. Coverage can vary between neighbouring streets, so national speed claims are less useful than the estimate for your home. Compare the monthly price, setup fee, minimum term and the price charged after the offer ends.

Choose the right broadband speed

A small household using email, browsing and one television needs less capacity than a home with several people streaming, gaming and working at the same time. Look at the guaranteed minimum as well as the advertised average, especially if reliable video calls matter.

Check the full contract cost

Multiply the monthly charge across the minimum term, then add activation, delivery and installation fees. Check the terms for annual rises and note the out-of-contract price. That figure gives a fairer comparison than the introductory monthly rate.

Switch broadband provider

Confirm when your current agreement ends before ordering a replacement. Keep a note of equipment that must be returned and avoid cancelling a working connection too early. Your new provider should explain the transfer date and whether an engineer visit is required.

Four checks that prevent a bad broadband deal

  1. 01Check the actual speed estimate for your address.
  2. 02Add setup fees and mid-contract rises to the total cost.
  3. 03Confirm whether the router and installation are included.
  4. 04Note the end date and the price after the offer.
