How to choose a broadband deal
How fast do you need?
For one or two people browsing, streaming in HD and making video calls, 50–100Mbps is usually plenty. Busy households with several 4K streams, large game downloads or people working from home benefit from 300Mbps or more. Full-fibre plans of 900Mbps and above make most sense for big households, or if upload speed matters for backing up files and live streaming. The speeds we show are the providers' advertised average download speeds.
Contract length
Most deals run for 18 or 24 months. Rolling monthly plans cost a little more each month but let you leave at short notice, usually 30 days' notice. That's useful if you rent, expect to move, or are waiting for full fibre to reach your street. Our BBP Score gives credit for shorter contracts.
Mid-contract price rises
Since 17 January 2025, Ofcom rules mean any price rise built into a new contract must be shown in pounds and pence, with the date it applies, before you sign. Check the figures in the contract summary: a cheap introductory price can rise later in the term. We factor intro discounts that end mid-contract into the score.
Upfront costs
Some deals charge an activation, set-up or router delivery fee. We add these to the total cost over the contract. We only label a deal "no upfront cost" when the provider's figure is exactly £0.
Availability
Which networks reach your home depends on your address. Many of the strongest-value full-fibre deals come from regional networks that cover some towns and not others. Enter your postcode to see what you can actually order.

Best broadband deals: your questions answered
What is the best broadband deal in the UK right now?
By our BBP Score, the top-ranked deal today is Zzoomm 1000 Full Fibre 1m at £48/month. The best deal for you depends on what's available at your address and how much speed you need, so check your postcode to see deals you can order.
Which broadband deal is the cheapest?
The lowest effective monthly price we currently track is Community Fibre 100 Mbps Fibre Broadband (24m) at £14/month. Effective price spreads any intro discount across the whole contract. The cheapest deals are often slower or only available in some areas.
Can my broadband price go up during my contract?
For contracts taken out since 17 January 2025, providers can't use rises linked to inflation or set as a percentage. Any price rise written into the contract must be stated upfront in pounds and pence, with the date it takes effect. Contracts signed before that date may still include inflation-linked rises.
How do I switch broadband provider?
For most home broadband and landline switches you only need to contact your new provider. Under Ofcom's One Touch Switch process, which launched in September 2024, they arrange the move with your old provider. Your old provider can't charge notice-period fees beyond the switch date. You may still owe early termination charges if you're in contract, and your provider must tell you about these before you switch.
Can I cancel a new broadband contract if I change my mind?
Yes. If you sign up online, by phone or away from a shop, you normally have 14 days to cancel without giving a reason. If your service has already started, you may have to pay for what you've used and any installation costs, and your old service won't be restored automatically.
How do you rank the deals?
Every deal gets a BBP Score from 0 to 100, calculated from value per Mbps, speed, all-in cost, contract length, upfront fees, how much the price rises after any intro offer, and extras. Providers can't pay to improve a score. Read the full method on our How we score page.
