Fastr's new York package runs at four times its old top speed

Fastr Broadband, the alternative network operator formerly called UK Fibre Networks, appears to have quietly launched an 8Gbps symmetric full fibre package in York. As of 25 October 2026 it sits at the top of the range, in place of the 2Gbps plan that was the company's fastest tier until now.

New customers pay £119.99 per month over a 24-month term. Fastr advertises the package with average speeds of 7Gbps, and 8Gbps is the peak. Because the service is symmetric, uploads run at the same rate as downloads.

What comes with the package

The monthly price covers more than the connection itself:

  • no cap on how much data you use
  • a router that supports Wi-Fi 7
  • a pledge that the price will not rise at any point during the contract

The last of those matters on a 24-month commitment. Many providers raise prices part-way through a term, and Fastr says that will not happen here, so £119.99 is the figure customers should expect to pay every month.

Average and peak speeds

Fastr leads its promotion with 7Gbps rather than 8Gbps. The package is still sold as an 8Gbps product, but the advertising rules mean the company has to promote the average speed customers can expect, and the 8Gbps figure is given as the peak. In practice, 7Gbps is the number Fastr is putting forward as typical.

Either way, it is a big step up from the old top tier. The previous flagship ran at 2Gbps, so the new package is four times as fast on headline speed. The earlier plan was the best Fastr offered when we last looked a few short months ago, which suggests the upgrade has arrived quickly.

Who can order it

There is one clear limit. Anyone outside the footprint cannot take it, however attractive the speed.

Fastr is not reselling someone else's lines here. The package depends entirely on its own build, so availability follows the reach of that network rather than any wider rollout.

What changes for customers

People covered by Fastr in York can now choose an 8Gbps symmetric service at £119.99 per month on a 24-month contract. Compared with the previous top tier, they get a much higher speed ceiling, a Wi-Fi 7 router in the deal, no data limits and a price that Fastr says is fixed for the term.

The launch looks low-key. Fastr has not been shown to have made a big announcement of the new tier, and it appears to have simply gone on sale, which is why it can be described as quiet. Customers wanting to know whether their address is covered will need to check against Fastr's York network.
