GoFibre Connects 1,000th Customer in Montrose as Full Fibre Rollout Accelerates

Scottish Town Embraces Gigabit Broadband Revolution

Montrose, Scotland – GoFibre, the Edinburgh-based alternative network provider, has hit a major milestone in its mission to bring full fibre broadband to rural Scotland. The company announced today that it has connected its 1,000th customer in the town of Montrose, marking a significant step forward in its £164 million network rollout.

Residents Flock to Sign Up for Ultra-Fast Speeds

Since launching its Montrose build in early 2024, GoFibre has seen a surge in demand from local residents and businesses eager to take advantage of the ultra-fast speeds and reliability offered by full fibre technology.

“We couldn’t wait to get connected,” said Sarah Thompson, a graphic designer who works from her home in Montrose. “With gigabit speeds, I can now upload and download large files in seconds, which has completely transformed my workflow.”

Community Comes Together to Celebrate

To mark the 1,000 customer milestone, GoFibre has teamed up with local ice cream shop Scoops of Moo to host a special community event on May 17th. From 1pm to 3:30pm, residents are invited to visit the shop to learn more about the benefits of full fibre and enjoy complimentary treats.

“This is our way of saying thank you to the people of Montrose for welcoming us with open arms,” said Andy Hepburn, COO of GoFibre. “We’re excited to continue growing our network here and across Scotland.”

Stylish Shades for Early Adopters

The first 20 guests to sign up for GoFibre service at the event will receive a free ice cream of their choice. And anyone who purchases a special GoFibre sundae over the weekend will walk away with a pair of the company’s signature sunglasses.

“I’ll definitely be sporting my GoFibre shades this summer,” laughed local retiree John Wilson. “And with these broadband speeds, I’ll be able to video chat with my grandkids in HD without any buffering.”

Rapid Progress Towards 500,000 Premises Goal

Beyond Montrose, GoFibre continues to make rapid progress on its goal of passing 500,000 premises with full fibre by the end of 2025. The company has already built out its network to over 120,000 homes and businesses across 30 local areas.

GoFibre has also secured key contracts through the government’s Project Gigabit programme, including a £12.64 million deal to connect underserved communities in Teesdale and North Northumberland.

Full Speed Ahead

With strong backing from infrastructure investor Gresham House and growing demand for its services, GoFibre shows no signs of slowing down. The company remains laser-focused on its mission to bring the benefits of full fibre connectivity to as many people as possible.

“Hitting 1,000 customers in Montrose is an important proof point for our business,” said Hepburn. “But we’re just getting started. Watch this space – there are even more exciting announcements on the horizon as we ramp up our rollout in the months ahead.”
