Broadband Black Friday Deals: Guide to the UK Sales
Julian Glover
Broadband Black Friday is the annual window where UK internet providers cut prices, add reward cards, waive setup fees and throw in extras to win new sign ups. If your contract is up, or close to it, this is one of the best times of year to switch and lock in a lower monthly bill.
What is Broadband Black Friday
Black Friday started as a US retail event and has become the biggest promotional period in UK broadband. Providers use it to clear sign up targets before the end of the year, so headline prices drop, promotional periods stretch further, and switching incentives get more generous.
Because ordering broadband takes a week or two to activate, most providers now run their Black Friday offers for a longer window rather than a single day. Expect promotions to appear from early November and run through to the first or second week of December.
When does Broadband Black Friday run
Black Friday itself falls on the last Friday of November, with Cyber Monday the following Monday. In practice the broadband deals season is wider than that:
- Early November, first waves of price drops go live.
- Black Friday week, headline offers, reward cards and free months appear.
- Cyber Monday, a final push, often with matched or slightly better pricing.
- Early December, offers taper off as providers hit their volume targets.
If you can, order in the first half of the window. The most popular packages sell through, and installation slots get harder to book the closer you get to Christmas.
What deals to expect
Every year the promotions vary a little, but the pattern is consistent. Look out for:
- Lower monthly price for the length of the contract, usually 18 or 24 months.
- Free months at the start of the term, often two to six months on full fibre packages.
- Reward or gift cards that arrive after activation, worth £50 to £150 on faster tiers.
- Waived setup fees and free standard installation.
- Contribution to exit fees from your current provider, capped at a set amount.
- Bundled extras like a streaming service, a mesh Wi-Fi node or a smart speaker.
Full fibre (FTTP) and gigabit tiers usually see the biggest discounts, because that is where providers are trying to grow. Basic ADSL and part-fibre packages get smaller cuts.

How to compare Black Friday broadband offers
Headline prices are only part of the story. Before you commit, work through a short checklist.
Calculate the total contract cost
Under current Ofcom rules, providers must show you the exact monthly price for the whole term, including any step ups after a promotional period. Multiply the monthly price by the number of months, add any upfront fees, then subtract the cash value of any reward card. That total is what you are really paying. Our real cost calculator does this for you.
Check the speed you actually need
Faster is not always better value. A busy family with multiple 4K streams, gaming and home working benefits from 500Mbps or gigabit. A single person browsing and streaming will not notice the difference above 100Mbps. Use our speed estimator on the home page to get a realistic figure.
Confirm availability at your postcode
Openreach and altnet coverage varies street by street. A gigabit deal advertised nationally may not reach your address. Every deal on our site runs a live postcode check before you order.
Factor in exit fees
If you are still in contract with your current provider, early termination fees can run into the hundreds. Some Black Friday offers include a switching credit that covers part or all of this. If yours does not, weigh the saving against the exit charge.
Read the annual price rise policy
Most providers now write a fixed pounds and pence increase into the contract, applied each spring. Check the amount before you sign so there are no surprises in year two.
Should you wait for Black Friday to switch
If your contract ends between October and January, waiting for Black Friday usually pays off. Discounts in this window are typically the deepest of the year on full fibre packages.
If your contract ends earlier, do the maths on early exit. Sometimes the Black Friday saving covers the fee with room to spare, particularly when the new provider contributes to switching costs. Our am I overpaying check can help you decide.
After Black Friday
January and February are quieter, but not dead. Providers who missed their targets often extend or refresh offers into the new year, and altnets run their own promotions on a different cycle. If you miss the main window, check back rather than signing up at full price.
