GoFibre Connects almost 1,000 north east homes as Aberdeenshire build continues

GoFibre has connected almost 1,000 homes and businesses across Aberdeenshire to full fibre broadband for the first time, as the provider's network build in the north east of Scotland continues at pace.

The build is underway in St Fergus, Inchmarlo, Kincardine O'Neil, Collieston and Newburgh in Aberdeenshire, and in the Aberdeen suburb and village of Kingswells. Residents in those areas now have access to more reliable connectivity and speeds of up to 1Gbps on the GoFibre network.

Part of a wider Project Gigabit build

The work forms part of GoFibre's north east Scotland Project Gigabit build, which spans seven local authority areas: Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Angus, Perth and Kinross, and Dundee. The programme is aimed at improving connectivity in areas that have been underserved.

Under the Project Gigabit contract, GoFibre is delivering 63,000 premises. On top of that, the company will add further premises on a commercial basis, taking the total to at least 100,000 premises across the north east that will be added to its full-fibre network.

The push into Aberdeenshire sits alongside continued build across Perthshire, as GoFibre pursues a strategy focused on rural communities that larger providers have been slower to reach. Full-fibre networks offer lower latency and greater stability than copper-based connections, which matters for uses such as video conferencing and online learning that have become part of daily life for many households.

Comment from GoFibre

Andy Hepburn, chief operating officer at GoFibre, said: "It's exciting to see our North East Scotland network build expanding into more towns and villages in new parts of Aberdeenshire, as our teams continue to enable more homes and businesses to benefit from our full fibre broadband."
